Helen Gaskell is an Ex professional Downhill Bike Rider, she has ridden for Team Halfords Bikehut and Four Mountains. She started out racing as a cross country rider at the age of 10. Moving through the Youth and Junior ranks she continued to race this discipline for 5 years collecting numerous podiums in the national series and National Championships title.
At fifteen she discovered Downhill racing which she started to race alongside the cross country races. Finding it hard to commit to both arduous disciplines she quickly decided to concentrate her efforts on the Downhill events.
Helen made the decision to form a career as a downhill racer; this was justified as she made the British Team in her first year of downhill racing in 1999. At her first World Championships she collected Junior Bronze. Helen has been hooked since then. Over the last few years Helen has collected another world championship bronze and silver.
She has now been competing at the very pinnacle of her sport for the last seven years, the world cup series. She has continued support from Intense and other numerous sponsors. The world cup series see Helen travel all over the globe to compete against the best riders in the world. She has raced some amazing course, locations include Brazil, New Zealand, United States, Canada and throughout Europe.
In 2008 Helen was ranked 7th in the world. She had a fantastic 2008 season, even with the set back of injuries. Due to persistant back injuries Helen has now decided to concentrated her iding passion on Enduro Races, an event that combines the fitness and determination of Cross Country racing with the kill and nerve of downhill racing. Its an epic! Helen is currently excelling in this discipline, watch this space! Helen is an iccrediable focused rider with an enthusiasm like no other.
